THE Bicton Blister, hosted by Exmouth Harriers, certainly lived up to its name this year. The race is set over 9.75 miles on Bicton Common and Woodbury Common. It starts and ends on tarmac, but the main part of the race is on sandy tracks, pebble based tracks, through deep puddles and mud, with plenty of hills thrown in.

Tavistock Athletic Club runner, Pete Bazley, enjoys off-road running and was undaunted by the miserable weather on the day. He finished in 1hour 26 minutes 42 seconds. Second TAC runner was Ian Peacock who completed the course in 1.53.11.

On the same day, Jane Carroll competed in the Hayling Island 10 mile road and track race hosted by Havant AC. Conditions during the run were described as horrendous, with strong wind, heavy rain and hail. Jane battled heroically with the elements, to finish in 1.57.29.

Three TAC runners were presented with their Devon County Championship gold medals. They had made club history by each winning their respective age-groups in the Dartmoor Vale marathon. Rupert Warren (M40), Trevor Williams (M65) and Ray Bennett (M70) received their medals from club coach, Keith Bowles.

l The weather may be less than clement, but TAC keep training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If anyone wishes to join them they will be made welcome. Phone 01822 612577 for more information.
