TWO 10-kilometre road races took place on the same weekend recently and runners from Tavistock Athletic Club competed in both.

Unusually, the race at Ivybridge takes place on the Saturday evening, and conditions were good for a fast race. Most improved on last years' times for the race was Hannah Colston, not only running a personal best for the distance, but also knocking a huge three and a half minutes off her time to finish in 51minutes 24 seconds. Nicole Heryet also ran strongly, being first club lady home in 48 minutes.

Pete Bazley continued his excellent form and was first TAC to the finish, winning his male 55 age-category in 41.39. Roger Hewitt came fifth in his age group, in 45.12 and Tony Shearer improved his time by 19 seconds to finish in 47.03.

New club member David Ruffell finished in 54.40 with triathlete Bryony Fordham and Laura Aspen crossing the line together in 56.10, the latter making a welcome return to competitive running.

Conditions at the second 10k of the weekend, at Bideford, were perhaps just a little less favourable, being warm and windy, but Caroline Steven, Andy Houghton and Kate Rogers all excelled to win their age-groups, whilst Claire and Adrian Pitcher both gained personal bests.

TAC times: Caroline Steven 42.37, Rebecca Mingo (fifth senior lady) 42.40, David Twine (third male 55) 42.56, Gary Chater 46.43, Andy Houghton 47.02, Kate Rogers 48.17, Claire and Adrian Pitcher 52.18, Sheila Houghton 55.42, Ann Woodhouse 63.37.
