TAVISTOCK Athletcis Club celebrated its 25th anniversary in fine style with an awards dinner at The Terrace, Tavistock.

The evening opened in with an entertaining speech from chairman Alan Herdman, which, followed by an address from The deputy Mayor of Tavistock Phil Sanders who commended TAC for their contribution to the local community, as well as the outstanding individual achievements of senior and junior members.

Cllr Sanders presented commemorative silver salvers in recognition of some outstanding achievements by TAC members Heather Fell, for continued International achievement, Adam Holland for becoming the youngest ever runner to complete 100 marathons, and Richard Drage for representing England in the British and Irish Masters' Cross Country International Championships. Richard was also named senior male athlete of the year for 2010.

Jo Meek was awarded the title of senior female athlete of the year.

The event was attended by members past and present, including founder member Llew Jones who was presented with an award for outstanding contribution to the club over the last 25 years. TAC continues the great work of Llew Jones and others, with a recent highlight helping to build the Track for Tavi, a fantastic community resource. Additional awards were presented to head coach Dotty Allan for her dedication to the club, including starting regular men's and women's track sessions and her endless enthusiasm in encouraging beginners to take up running.

There were also awards for club member who have made individual achievements. Dotty's winners include: Most promising male athlete of the year, Adrian Pitcher; most promising female athlete of year, Vicki Lloyd; there were other awards made to Eunice Moule, Sheila Houghton, Claire Pitcher, Ann Woodhouse, Sandy Ralph, Alison Eagleton and Lesley Cowie.

n Tavistock Athletic Club welcomes new members of all abilities, with coached sessions throughout the week. It's has a strong junior section for 8-16 year olds, and particularly welcomes families.
