IN the Okehampton and district table tennis league the Bill Fogerty Cup semi-finals were played.
Tavistock A beat Anchorage A 6-3. Tavistock scorers were Fred Phillips (2); Roger Bowkett (2); Peter Hicks (2). Anchorage scores were Martin Fowler (3); Dave Edwards (0); Bob Vella (0). Martin Fowler played a captain's role for Anchorage but it was not enough to overcome a determined Tavistock team.
The second semi final saw last years beaten finalists The Young Ones take on the current holders The J Team. In a hotly contested match The Young Ones took revenge by winning 6-3.
George Haskell scored a fine maximum (3) and was ably supported by his younger brother Edward (2) and new team member Andy Moppett (1). The J Team scores were Naomi Jackson (2); Nick Jackson (1); Frank Cockburn (0). The Tavistock versus Okehampton final will take place next week and has all the makings of another close match.
In the consolation semi final the current holders Okehampton A had a walk over.
The second semi final saw newly promoted first division team Anchorage B take on a strong Bridestowe side who despite lots of long rallies ran out 8-1 winners.
Anchorage B scores were Dave Wilson (0); John Watson (1); Roger Gilbert (0). Bridestowe scores were Mark Tancock (3); Francis Griffiths (3); Phil Down (2). John Watson played a good controlled game to save the whitewash and beat Phil Down 21-13.
The final is to be played next week between Okehampton A and Bridestowe.
