SWIMMERS in Tavistock made a big splash for charity in April as they completed the Swimathon 2011 challenge at Meadowlands Leisure Pool and helped raise £940 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation.

Meadowlands Leisure Pool was one of more than 580 pools which took part nationwide in the Swimathon this year.

With 14 swimmers visiting Meadowlands, swimmers of all ages, shapes and abilities were able to make their splash count for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Organiser Dave Smith, business manager at Meadowlands Leisure Pool for Leisure Connection, said: 'We're thrilled to have been able to help Marie Curie Cancer Care again this year. Meadowlands Leisure Pool managed to raise £940. 'The Marie Curie Swimathon was such an important event for the local community and it was touching to see how many swimmers arrived, if not to swim, but to show their support for such a worthy cause.'
