MEMBERS of Tavistock Swimming Club took part in the 2006 Devon County Inter-Club Championships held in Plymouth. Swimmers achieved a total of twenty-one personal best times, these included for the girls Alexander Stoecker in 11/u 50m Freestyle, Rebecca Tansey in 11/u 50m backstroke, Charlotte Mellor in 11/u 50m butterfly, Laura Aspen in 13/u 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, Kirsty Smith in 13/u 50m breaststroke and 15/u 100m backstroke, Kirsty Best in 15/u 100m breaststroke and in the women?s open competitions a personal best was gained by Alison Kelly in 100m breaststroke. In the boys events personal best times were gained by Felix Davies in 11/u 50m backstroke, Matthew Edwards in 11/u 50m butterfly, Sam Harmsworth in 13/u 50m freestyle, Josh Stephens in 13/u 50m backstroke, Tom Waddington in 13/u 50m breaststroke, Ross Williams in 15/u 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly, Tom Waddington in 15/u 100m breaststroke and in the men?s open competitions a personal best was gained by Michael Best in 100m backstroke. Gaining not only personal best times, Sam Campbell took first place overall in the 11/u 50m breaststroke and sixth place in the 11/u 50m freestyle. Others gaining a finishing position included Laura Radgick taking fifth position in 15/u 100m freestyle, James Lake taking fifth place in 100m butterfly, Tom Waddington taking sixth place in 13/u breaststroke and Laura Aspen taking sixth in 13/u 50m freestyle. Other swimmers taking part in the competition, some narrowly missing personal best times included Ella Waddington, Catriona Smith, Rachael Kelly, Tom Crocker and Chris Ralph. The team came a credible twelfth out of the sixteen teams competing, moving up three positions from the previous year.
