SWIMMING team mates Matthew Henry and Joshua Lake marked the end of their partnership recently with a clutch of medals and trophies.
The two boys, both 11, met six years ago when they both took the plunge at the shallow end of the Kelly pool to first learn to swim. They progressed rapidly, racing for Tavistock Swimming Club at the age of seven and last year moved to Plymouth Leander where they excelled among the very competitive swimmers attracted to the club.
But next year Matthew takes up his bursary at Kelly where he will race for the school. Doubtless the two friends will continue to meet at the competitions.
However, going out with a splash, Matthew took first place in his age group at the last Leander Open Meet, racing only for one of the days' competitions and Joshua took third.
Matthew won the 50m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 200m medley and 400m freestyle and second in the 50m breaststroke. Joshua got seconds in the 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, thirds in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, fourths in the 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and a fifth in the 200m medley.
