THE Western Counties Youth Swimming Championships were held over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Kelly College had nine swimmers competing in the competition, which is for girls 14 years and over and boys 15 and over.

Jack Cockerton, 15, Kelly College?s swim squad captain was to show the way for the rest of the team with six gold medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 200m and 400m individual medley.

Jack took time off from his GCSE studies to compete at this event, but now for Jack, it is back into hard training and more studying.

Amanda Sanderson, 15, picked up four silver medals, 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m and 400m individual medley and two bronze medals in the 800m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Sophie Stanford, 16, in the 100m breaststroke and Brikitta Batten, 14, in the 200m butterfly also achieved bronze medals.

In June, Kelly College will be sending a team of swimmers to compete in the Western Counties age group competitions at Bath and Millfield.
