Tavistock Ladies 2
Totnes Ladies 1
TAVISTOCK ladies' hockey team opened with strong defensive play from Fiona Dunn, Babs Horton and Rebecca Creasy.
The ball was moved around the pitch which enabled Tavistock to have good strikes at goal. Unfortunately, the defence Totnes seemed impenetrable.
Lisa Hogan and Emma Bowden worked the ball up the right hand side of the pitch, which enabled Tavistock to set up attacking play formations. Sue Gawman dribbled past numerous players and struck the ball into the D. Judy Smallacombe took a strike, which was deflected, but Hogan was quick enough to react and tucked the ball past the goalkeeper.
During the second half Tavistock had to play more defensively as Totnes were quick to see gaps on the pitch and use them to their advantage.
Numerous short corners were awarded to Totnes but Tavistock were always out quick to deflect any strikes at goal.
Tavistock scored the second goal when Kath Collar took the ball into the D and took a strike. The ball was kicked out by the keeper and Smallacombe was waiting to chip it into the goal.
In the last five minutes Totnes brought the score to 2-1 as Rebecca Creasy was faced with a direct strike from the opposition.
Tavistock expressed thanks to the Lopes Arms' for team teas and a Christmas meal that night.
Player of the match: Fiona Dunn.
This Saturday Tavistock are at home to Liskeard seconds, starting at 12.30pm.
