IT was sweet revenge for Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club. Their first home game of the week saw them victorious (96-93) over Looe Bowling Club, who in June had inflicted a 108-101 defeat on their Tavistock visitors. Tuesday?s return match saw Tavistock winning four rinks, drawing one and losing another. Tavistock skips? results were: Norman Paramor won (18-12); Walter Meek won (15-14); Hazel Lovell won (20-16); Vic Stacey won (13-12); Malcolm Bloomer drew (15-15); Ernie Piper lost (15-24). Monday saw the men?s County Trophy team face Bere Alston men and return home having lost the match (56-91) after winning only one of the four rinks played. Skip Mike Allen led his crew of Vic Stacey, Wallace Northey and Derek Bradford to a narrow 18-16 victory, while skips Norman Paramor (6-23), Malcolm Bloomer (19-20) and Clive Jago (13-32) all tasted defeat. Friday saw six rinks of players travel from Redruth to face the Tavistock mixed team and return home having lost the match 140-97, after the Tavistock squads won four of the six rinks. Skip Walter Meek and his crew notched up a 33-13 victory. Mike Allen led his team to a 21-19 win and skip Malcolm Bloomer saw his squad achieve a 28-12 victory. Skip Norman Paramor led his crew to a 26-8 win, while skips Ernie Piper (17-20) and Val Southern (15-25) both led losing rinks. Thursday saw the ladies? section playing at home against two rinks from the Victoria Park Club on a friendly match which ended as a draw (28-28) after both rinks? play ended with a one shot difference. Tavistock skip Sue Silcox and her crew won (15-14) while skip Val Southern and her team lost (13-14). Saturday?s home game against the Barnstaple United Services Club was abandoned after persistent rain made the game unplayable.
