Tavistock Colts 5
Wadebridge Colts 5
THE first half belonged to Tavistock who, against the wind, showed promising attacking. But their only score came from an excellently executed set-piece from the forwards, having gained a penalty close to the Wadebridge line.
Tavistock put the ball into touch opting for a lineout. It was expertly won by Peter Welsh and his forward colleagues set up a driving maul. The maul was driven infield and when it reached the Wadebridge line scrum half Josh Sutton touched down for the try.
The second half saw Tavistock absorb tremendous pressure as the Wadebridge pack out-rucked and mauled the Tavistock pack. Tremendous defensive work was required by centre Matt Smith and wing Louis Addaway to keep Wadebridge at bay.
After weathering the storm Tavistock stormed back and centre Paul Harwood was unlucky to be adjudged as knocking the ball forward as he dived over the Wadebridge try line
Wadebridge came back and indiscipline among Tavistock allowed Wadebridge to get within a few metres of the try line. From this pressure, the Tavistock defence cracked and a try was conceded.
With only seconds remaining Tavistock restarted and fly half Doug Lloyd almost stole the victory for the home side. He cleverly chipped over the Wadebridge defence and was just beaten by the cover who backed the ball into touch only a few metres from the try line
Man of the match: Matt Martin.
