Walkham Valley vs TACC BATTING first due to pressure of numbers, Walkham were initially curtailed by the speed and accuracy of Hethy and Hatton. Conceding just six from the first four overs and at the cost of Roger Smith?s wicket it seemed that Walkham might be poised for a ignominious session. However, Richard Berry and the incessant James Hills survived the initial onslaught to reap a harvest of runs from Maffy and Burdon. Berry fell on 25 while Hills stroked 26, walking off undefeated yet again. Simon Stokes, in his second knock for Walkham was unable to repeat his previous heroics, yet still managing to hit a maximum, falling for nine. Martin Chandler couldn?t keep him company for long, scoring just one run. This brought in Simon Ward who managed a six and a four from his first over on the way to a battling 17. Accompanied by Ray Spreadbury, the pair scurried for some much needed runs, aided by a series of wides from the TACC second string bowling. When Ward departed, he was replaced by Mark Partington-Smith who put in a fleeting appearance before being bowled. His replacement, Mike Kierney, finished off the innings in the company of Spreadbury bringing Walkham?s total to a respectable, but by no means comfortable, 105. TACC started confidently enough, Burdon and O?Sullivan surviving the opening bursts of Hills and Tierney. Yet both fell to Stokes, each scoring ten. From then on, they suffered from an inability to score boundaries, achieving only one maximum and three fours for the entire innings. Losing just three more wickets after the opening pair, Spreadbury bagging two with the aid of Hills excellent catching, and Partington-Smith flattening the wickets for another, TACC still ended up with just 83 in total, leaving Walkham the surprised but grateful winners.
