SUNDAY Service at St Paul's Church in Gulworthy on January 5 ended with a surprise for parishioner Betty Deacon of Stubberlands. 

There was cake, champagne and flowers to celebrate Betty's 90th birthday that day.

The congregation sang 'Happy Birthday' but loyal churchgoer Betty chose the hymns including 'What a friend we have in Jesus'. 

There will be more cake at Gulworthy on January 19 at 11.15am, when, responding to requests for a shortened service that everyone, young, old or unfamiliar with church, will understand, enjoy and find meaningful, St Paul's Church is holding its first 'All Comers' Service'.
