THE Tavistock College Surf Academy is to take its first trip abroad this April for a training camp in France.

Academy instructors Pete Keegan and Dan Kinsman will take 10 surf team members to La Torche in south Brittany during the second week of the Easter holidays.

Pete Keegan said: 'Last season's training camp at Sennen Cove in Cornwall was a big success so we decided to look a little further afield and offer an exciting opportunity for the surf team to train in a warmer climate with more consistent surf.

'La Torche is an excellent location for training and team building and will also allow the students to experience another culture.'

La Torche is situated on the west coast of France with beaches facing out into the Atlantic, allowing it to pick up swell from almost every direction.

'It is a very forgiving break and is ideal for beginners and for more advanced surfers," continued Mr Keegan. 'The nearest town is Benodet which is twinned with Torpoint.'

The group will stay in cabins at a local campsite and will be able to test their language skills in French shops.

Dan Kinsman said it was a rare and fantastic opportunity for the academy's up and coming surfers to experience consistent waves and surf in an international arena alongside others from around the globe.
