Carlsberg South Western League
Plymouth Parkway 0
Tavistock 3
THIS top of the table game was switched from the Brickfields to Langsford Park due to a misunderstanding between the club and the council, with the centre of the athletics track marked out for the forthcoming season making the pitch unplayable, writes Eric Pinch.
The Lambs welcomed back Darren Babb from injury but otherwise it was the same line-up that has served them well in recent games.
The game got off to an excellent start for the Lambs when in the first minute Gavin Woodward?s wayward back-pass to Parkway keeper James Dungey put him under extreme pressure to clear and he allowed the ball to go across his goal. But Wayne Crow got a foot to the ball to steer it around the keeper and put the Lambs one up.
The Lambs saw a couple of chances go wide before the ?home? side almost got an equaliser on 20 minutes, but Tavistock?s Andy Meeds brought off a great save from a Mark Conday header.
Ten minutes later the Lambs came close to doubling their score but Nathan Blamey?s 30-yard free kick smacked against the crossbar.
The Lambs had another scare at the start of the second half but James Cole cleared off the line from a Conday shot and Meeds tipped a header over the bar from the resultant corner kick.
But it was the Lambs who grew stronger as the game progressed. Dungey had to tip a Cole free kick around a post before the Lambs eased any worries of a Parkway comeback ten minutes before the end with Babb heading home a Paul Smith corner.
The ?away? side were still not done and sealed an impressive victory with virtually the last kick of the game when a quick break out of defence saw Paul Adcock?s crossfield ball hit first time by sub Gary Andrew to squeeze inside Dungey?s far post.
Another great performance from the Lambs against close rivals that keeps them at the top of the table and goes a long way to help them secure second spot at the end of the season.
Saturday sees the Lambs travel to Blaise Park for another top of the table clash when they take champions St Blazey with a 3pm kick-off.
