IF YOU are living with an obsession or addiction of any kind, an Okehampton service is keen to help this new year.

'Living Free' is a support group for those suffering from addictions, obsessions or addictive tendencies, encompassing anything from eating disorders, drugs, shopping, alcohol, gambling or even computer gaming.

The group has been running for 18 months and is a drop in group which meets at the Inspiration Centre at the corner of Crediton Road and Northfield Road every Tuesday at 7.30pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and seek support.

Mike Davies, who is a member of the management group, said: 'Many people start the year with good intentions with their New Year's resolutions. Some of these may already have been broken, but within Living Free we ask people to come along and see if we can help.'

Living Free uses a method of support called the Genesis Process, an attempt to provide the necessary understanding, as well as provide practical tools, for real and permanent change.

Mike added: 'Part of the process involves understanding the brain and has provided recovery not only in freedom from self-destructive behaviours, but also addressing the underlying issues that drive them.

'It may be a case of trying to lose weight but not having the understanding of why you are craving food. This is where the process and the group can help.'

The group is open to all who feel that they may need support and a £1 donation is asked for, but not required, to help cover the costs of tea and coffee provided. The programme is on a continual cycle so people can turn up at any time in the course and simply fit in.

The group has a Freephone telephone number, 0845 034 6404, for use at any time outside meetings.
