I KNOW that a few people reading this letter will class me as an old dinosaur. So be it.

I write to support John Phillips' remarks (Letters, February 21), regarding the military use of Dartmoor. Our armed forces, especially elite units such as the Royal Marines, have a worldwide reputation for excellence. This is only achieved by comprehensive, thorough training. The use of Dartmoor is a vital part of that training.

Just as a leopard does not change its spots, so mankind, regrettably,will not alter.

One day, this nation will again face an enemy. The populace will then hope and pray that our forces are superior. Let us make sure they have every facility possible, to be just that.
