CHANGES to the terms and condition of employment for staff at Somerfield supermarket have been introduced, which could mean redundancies for some of those working at the firm?s Okehampton store. Somerfield has announced nationwide plans to make some important changes to its store structures and staff terms and conditions. In a statement Somerfield said: ?We are confident that these changes are right for the business and for all of our colleagues. They will simplify our operations and enable us to better serve our customers and to grow our business in the competitive environment of food retail. These changes bring Somerfield in line with the market place and reflect the fact that retail is a 24-hour, 365-day business.? A spokesperson said the company was unable to give specific information about the impact on jobs at the Okehampton store as it was not appropriate to discuss employees? circumstances. However, they said Somerfield was entering a period of consultation with potentially affected employees, and it was the firm?s intention to find anyone impacted by these changes alternative roles within the business where possible.
