CALLINGTON caped Tesco crusaders did their bit in the fight against cancer as they joined forces with colleagues from Launceston and across the country for a fundraising weekend.

The 'Calling All Heroes' event from February 8 to 10 helped in the aim of bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Staff from the Tavistock Road store dressed up as superheroes and cartoon characters to raise money for Cancer Research UK, Tesco's Charity of the Year — staff at the Callington store are working hard to help hit the £10-million fundraising target.

The money will help fund 32 vital early diagnosis research projects across the UK.

Community champion Alan Woollcombe (right) was one of the staff members who dressed up and gave out balloons and sweets to customers. Joining him were staff member Dan Riley and Danielle Southgate.

Alan said: 'Several members of my family lost their struggle with cancer. This has been a fun way for staff and customers at Tesco Callington to raise money to help Cancer Research's doctors and scientists find a cure.'

Throughout the partnership Tesco and Cancer Research UK have been working together to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer, reduce people's anxiety about the disease and encourage them to visit the doctor if they notice anything unusual. This will help more people survive cancer and keep more families together.
