ALMOST £2,000 has been raised in the Tavistock area for the families of the four Warwickshire firemen who died fighting a blaze earlier this month. Tavistock firefighters praised the generosity of the public who donated more than £930 in Bedford Square on Saturday morning. The crew also gave £200 itself to the appeal. Firefighter Mitch Kingham said it was a joint decision on the station to take part in the appeal. ?We thought this was the best thing we could do to show our support and condolences to the families of the retained firefighters who died,? he said. ?We were on the square for four or five hours and the response was superb.? Two crew members, including firefighter Kingham, drove up to the headquarters of the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service yesterday (Wednesday) to deliver the money. Meanwhile £700 was raised in Yelverton on Saturday when crew members took to the streets with their collecting tins from 10am to 4pm.
