TAVISTOCK trained kick-boxer Mike Brent won the English IKF welterweight title in great style by defeating holder Dean Alexander at an all action fight at the Guildhall in Plymouth.

Mike, 28, from Buckland Monachorum, and who trains at Robert Hingston's gym at Tavistock College and the Taurus Gym in Plymouth, won on points after a frantic five rounds.

Robert, himself a current British, English and South West pro champion. said of Mike's fight.

'What a title fight! Desire and heart shown by both men. On their toes landing an array of punches and kicks on each other.

'Neither wanting to take a backward step. Heavy head kicks as well as body shots landed by both of them during the fight. As well as every punch in the book.'

'With revenge for his only ever loss and the title in his mind Brent produced the round of his career so far and pushed Alexander all the way to get the decision.
