THE midweek stableford at Hurdwick Golf Club took place in October sunshine. Rob Holter took full advantage of the conditions to lead the field with 40 points.
Chris Dicker took second place on countback over Ray White, both with 38 points. Rob Holter and Ray Hurle won the Twos Sweep.
In the ladies? section, Sally Arscott again led the field in the monthly stableford competition with an excellent 38 points and had her handicap cut to 36.
Val Raine was second with 37 points and Rosemary Rea in third place with 33 points.
In the Doris Willes-Little (Devon County) tournament, Val Raine and Ann Martyn fought their way through three tough rounds to reach the semi-finals where they came up against the eventual winners from Churston, who both play for Devon County A team.
The finals of the singles knockout tournaments were completed and the handicap final was contested by Val Raine and Rosemary Rea.
The match went to the 21st hole before a conclusion was reached with Rosemary finishing as the winner.
Val had considerable consolation when she took the scratch championship from Ann Martyn. After a closely fought front nine, Val had a purple patch and won on the 14th hole.
Local golf players are reminded that Hurdwick Golf Club are holding their Motor Neurone Charity Day on Sunday October 20. The competition is a four-ball better ball stableford and any conviction of pairs may enter.
The entry fee for non-members is £10, of which £5 will go to the charity.
The event is held in memory of well known local golfer, Tim Reader. Tim died from motor neurone disease some years ago. He was a past captain of Tavistock Golf Club and the first secretary of Hurdwick Golf Club when it opened in 1990.
