Durning Lawrence Cornwall Charity Cup First Round Porthleven 4 Callington Town 3 (after extra time) PORTHLEVEN effectively had to win this game twice before progressing to the next round of the Charity Cup against a spirited Callington side. With both sides not in league or FA action this weekend, it was agreed to move this tie from a potential Tuesday night jaunt for the East Cornwall club to the far west, to this more sensible time, but maybe with 15 minutes gone, Town might have wished for the original fixture to have been kept as the home side raced into a 2-0 lead. Shane Richards put the sea-siders ahead on the 10th minute and shortly afterwards Jamie Burr headed them further in front. But Callington, despite being not up to full strength, hit back and Adam McPherson reduced the arrears on 22 minutes. Then, 10 minutes later Graham Jones levelled matters for the visitors after Lee Crook had set up the opportunity. With scores level at 90 minutes, extra time ensued but it was the home side who took full advantage with Mark Holland and Dan Stidwell firing Port back into a two goal lead. Jones pulled another one back late on but his side were unable to repeat their earlier heroics and the final whistle brought relief for the home side and disappointment for Callington as another cup run reaches a premature end.
