LAST Thursday saw the final event of the Okehampton Cycling Club Summer time trial series.

On a overcast but dry evening an excellent field of 21 riders turned up from around the area to ride the 10 mile course which traces the old A30 road from Bridestowe to Lewdown and back. The fair weather helped produce some good times with five riders recording new personal best times for the course.

Okehampton resident Steve Sage (Southfork Racing) finished on a high note by equalling his course record of 23 minutes 30 seconds. He was followed by Mike Cory who achieved a personal best time of 26.54 and in the process gained sufficient points to become the OKCC summer time trial series champion for 2011.

Results: S Sage 23.30; M Cory 26.54PB; B Kerwin 27.33PB; J Fabrizio 27.34; E Adkin 27.39PB; A Stokes 28.42; T Mitchell 28.50; M Pittson 29.28; J Rice 29.59; A Warner 30.21; R Yells 30.24PB; M Chave 30.32; D Wills 30.48; C Nott 31.31; M Rice 32.04; D Crome 32.06; E Attfield 32.48PB; A Crighton 33.37; J Channon 34.12; N Williams 34.13; R Griffiths 45.37.

The club held an after race barbecue to celebrate the ending of the event series which it was agreed has been one of the most successful ever held and enjoyed by everyone taking part including family and friends who cheered and encouraged the riders.
