IT was a week of mixed fortunes for Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club ladies? section last week when they played two matches, winning one and losing the other. The week also saw the ladies? singles championship decided when Yvonne Meneer and Marion Allen fought out a contest which was only decided by a ?sudden death? tie. Marion won the first game 12-0, only to see Yvonne win the second 8-7, this sending the contest into a best of three ?one-shot ends? tie breaker. Marion won 2-0 to take the title. Tuesday had seen the ladies? two rink league team facing Plymouth Sir Francis Drake ladies in a home match which Tavistock lost 31-52 after being defeated on both of the rinks played. Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of Sue Silcox, Val Southern and Betty Browse went down 15-20 despite winning 11 of the 21 ends. Skip Marion Allen and her crew of Anne Browne, Marlene Paramor and Henny Bawden lost 16-32 thanks to some consistent scoring by their opposition. Friday saw the ladies travel to play Plymouth Hoe on their sea-front green, and come away having won 58-16, thanks to good wins on both of the rinks played. Skip Henny Bawden and her squad of Marlene Paramor, Jenny Aldridge and Sue Silcox won 32-10 after they restricted their opponents to scoring on only five of the 21 ends. Skip Marion Allen and her team of Val Southern, Viv Powell-Thomas and Joan Northey won 26-6 after their opponents failed to score during the first 11 ends played. Saturday saw a five-rink mixed team travel to face a Plymouth Civil Service mixed team and come away having won 111-69, after winning three rinks and drawing another. Skip Ernie Piper and his team of Gordon Northey, Laurie Smith and Yvonne Meneer drew 16-16 in a game where one side won ten ends and the other won eleven. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew of Shirley Blackburn, George Blackburn and Frank Welch won 20-12 after winning five of the last six ends played. Skip John Smith and his squad of Marlene Paramor, Vic Stacey and Brian Ellicott won 26-12, thanks to them picking up two fours and a six on their way to victory. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Val Southern, Gerald Worth and Geoff Cork won 29-12 after their opposition failed to get on the scoreboard until the 13th end of their game. Skip Mike Allen and his crew of Ray Meneer, Wallace Northey and Joan Northey went down 20-21 after their opposition scored five shots on the 19th end of their match.
