INTERNATIONALLY respected artist Linda Fay Powell died from a sudden illness at Tulle in France on August 8. She was 55.

Linda lived in Tavistock for many years where her sons, Ben and Simon, by her first marriage were born. Her parents John and Patricia Powell, originally of Tavistock, now live at Milton Abbott.

She had been on her way with her husband Frank to what they hoped would be a new life in Spain.

Linda moved to Colchester in Essex where she remarried but professionally continued to use her maiden name. She maintained regular contact with old friends in Tavistock and her parents.

She was a member of the Chartered Society of Designers and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

She was known internationally for her paintings, greeting cards and poster designs. Her home and studio were featured in 2002 in ?Good Housekeeping? magazine and her articles appeared in ?The Artist?.

She lectured extensively on Art in Essex and ran courses in Normandy, France.

She was an accomplished yachstwoman and she and Frank had planned to take their yacht with them to Spain.

She had designed their new home herself and it was to be in sympathy with the local Spanish architecture while allowing the interior to be an exhibition space, artist?s studio as well as office space for Frank.

Linda will be returned to her last home of Colchester where she will be cremated on August 27.

The principal mourners will be her husband, her two sons, her brother Anthony, her sister Claire and her parents.
