At the end of the competition organised by Tavistock Rotary Club, Tony Parker, Tavistock Rotary Club’s president, gave a cheque for £1,500 to Rob Palmer from the Street Pastors.
Rob said: ‘This support is much appreciated by all of our volunteers. It will be enormously helpful in helping us to continue to patrol the late night streets of Tavistock seeking to care, listen and help.’
Having handed over the first cheque, Tony himself became the recipient of the second, on behalf of Tavistock Dementia Action Alliance of which he is chairman. The cheque, again for £1,500 was presented to him by Tavistock Rotary’s president-elect Catherine Bailey.
The day was supported by the main local business sponsors.
Catherine Bailey told the Times: ‘It was a wonderful day supporting two superb local charities. Despite the uncertain weather, all of the golfers completed their round and had great fun.
‘Everyone was incredibly generous – certainly the golfers but especially the Tavistock businesses who sponsored who us and those who put up a wonderful range of raffle prizes.
‘We are already planning next year’s event on May 17, 2017, when we hope to see everyone there to support Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund (PDLF). PDLF have been wonderful supporters of the haematology team at Derriford Hospital for over 30 years and have helped to save the lives of many Tavistock family members.’
