SIXTEEN members of the Mid Devon Pony Club made the short journey to Bovey Tracey at the weekend and enjoyed a hugely successful time at the South Devon Moorland Branch?s Annual Tetrathlon.
The Novice Junior team of William Leech, Jessica Mortimore, Lucy Almond and Ceri Knox did brilliantly to win the team competition in their class with William finishing 3rd, Jessica 4th and Lucy 5th. They all put in great rides around the testing Holwell Lawn course, with Lucy riding a wonderful clear round and Jessica and William both close on their new mounts.
In the Junior Girls class, Charlotte Rowe had the best swim, finishing Saturday?s phases in 3rd place, with Ellen Bright in seventh. On Sunday their riding skills proved decisive, with them both going clear, moving Charlie up to first place, and Ellen up to fifth. It was a great achievement for Ellen, as it was her first tetrathlon clear round, after a number of annoying near misses! Ellen and Charlie were part of the mixed team that won the class.
The mini girls team of Lottie Trerise, Rosa Malseed and Jessica Jeffery finished in fourth place with Lottie second overall and Rosa having the best shoot of the day. Lottie had a rather hair raising X-C ride on a pony that she had only just met and did brilliantly to finish with only one stop, while Jessica put in a great round as the youngest person in the class.
Tommy Lyon-Smith was also the youngest in his class, the mini boys, and put in a fine all round performance to finish in fourth place, while Vicky Courtier had a good time in the mini mini class.
In the Novice mini class the team of Edward Almond, Martha Bright, Kim Stanton & Leah Williams thrilled us all, finishing in second place, with Martha finishing second individually, with the best swim and a clear round ride while Edward finished fifth in his first tetrathlon after a near perfect ride. Leah was also taking part in her first Tet and produced a very competent clear round.
In the Senior girls, Jess Trerise had a perfect day on Saturday, finishing with the Best Shoot, Run and Swim ? a truly great performance, but on Sunday an unlucky, unscheduled swim in the water jump dropped her back to second place, behind Alice Mills of the home club.
