SIX trainees at Heinz Frozen and Chilled Foods in Okehampton have successfully passed management qualifications after the company identified a need to supply first line managers to support the successful future of the business.
With consultancy support they were able to enhance the programme developed by the human resources team at Heinz. This was to integrate the NEBS NVQ Level 3 in Management — ensuring that both the aims of Heinz and the qualification were met.
As a result both mentors and management were trained to support and encourage the trainees to achieve their goal.
Trainee Marcia Bertram said she believed regular feedback and support gave her the encouragement she needed. Her self confidence was boosted by achieving a nationally recognised management qualification.
During the 18 month programme additional training was provided for other managers not directly involved in the qualification.
A spokesman for Heinz said: 'This has enhanced and augmented the skills base of the management team.'
The NVQ component of the programme is now complete and two first line managers have already been appointed. The programme is due to finish in late summer.
