FRESH from their part in the national Jubilee celebrations, Her Majesty's Royal Marines wowed audiences at the Big Band Spectacular, kicking off the three day last ever Whiteford Music Festival near Stoke Climsland.
The band supported by Albaston-based performers Yorkie were enjoyed by many partygoers, in fancy dress, dancing the night away to popular music from the last 60 years, including actor and TV personality Christopher Biggins.
Pomp and Circumstance was the order of the day at Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Proms featuring the Radio Light Orchestra, soloist Helen Sheppard, the Loveny Male Voice Choir and the Kernow Pipes and Drums. Following the stunning firework finale, the lights in the auditorium gradually went out to leave a lone piper to signal the end of the final Whiteford Promenade.
Family fun featured on Sunday with local bands Just Plain Myrtle and Red Herring supporting the fabulous Mad Dog Mcrea. The afternoon also saw a performance of the Jubilee song, performed by children from Stoke Climsland Primary School and the local church choir.
The event, which started in 2002 by the Friends of Stoke Climsland Parish Church has raised thousands of pounds for the church and other charities.
The 'Friends' charity will continue to present other events to benefit the church and bring enjoyment to the wider community.
