Okehampton Cup semi-final
Southgate United 1
Hatherleigh Town 2
A GOAL from substitute Sam Woolacott two minutes from time earned Hatherleigh a place in the final.
Southgate started the brighter and only two good saves from Gary Toop kept them at bay in the first five minutes, the first from a point-blank header was tipped over the bar and again Toop saved one-on-one. Hatherleigh started to get hold of the game, Simon White coming close midway through the half but it was Southgate who were playing the better football.
The second half was 15 minutes old when Southgate took a well deserved lead from a corner. Hatherleigh started to fight back but a mixture of good defending and poor finishing looked like leading to their exit from the cup.
Southgate thought they had scored a second but the linesman's flag was up to disappoint them. Minutes later they almost scored again when a shot was sent just wide of the post.
This seemed to spur Hatherleigh on and they were soon back in the game, White netting their equaliser with only five minutes to go.
As extra time loomed up stepped Sam Woolacott to score from close range. Hatherleigh can thank Gary Toop for keeping them in the game with some important saves.
Hatherleigh face Tap & Barrel in the final on Sunday May 5, kick-off 3pm.
