AN Okehampton hairdressing student has been awarded Exeter College?s student of the year award for hairdressing. Jess Brock, 18, works at Quinn?s hairdressing salon and has just completed her NVQ level 2 in hairdressing, by studying on day release for two years. She was chosen for the award because of her motivation, the excellence of her work, and in particular because through hard work and commitment she managed to finish her course well ahead of the expected completion date. This is no mean feat ? almost half the students in her year dropped out without completing the course. Jess also managed to build up her own clientele at Quinn?s during her studies ? a stage nobody else on her course managed to reach. She said: ?I was really pleased and very surprised at the same time! I didn?t expect to get this at all! I?m really grateful to all the girls at Quinns who helped and supported me.? Jess (left) received her award at a presentation evening at the Gipsy Hill Hotel in Exeter.
