Lewdown Second XI v Plymstock
On a glorious afternoon Lewdown Second XI visited Plymstock in the Devon League.
Having lost the toss, Lewdown were asked to bat on an artificial wicket. Olly Brown departed without troubling the scorers, which bought 16-year-old Will Hodgetts to the crease.
With absolutely no respect for the bowling Will was soon hitting boundary after boundary. He passed 50 in just 18 scoring shots, 100 in 30 scoring shots.
50 came and went and with tiredness setting in, he approached 200. In a manner suited to the innings, he passed this huge landmark with a massive straight six. He fell for 202, with Lewdown declaring on 350 for the loss of 4 wickets with 7 overs remaining. Peter Cooper added 30 and Nick Hayden 64 not out in a record third wicket stand of 230.
In response Plymstock were never allowed to settle with good bowling from Ade Edmonds, Peter Cooper and Mark Gibbs, all picking up wickets.
But it was the introduction of 18-year-old leg spinner Jamie Quance Woodland that resulted in another stunning display. Bowling with flight, drift and spin, Jamie bamboozled the batters with figures of 3.2 overs, 5 wickets for nine runs.
Lewdown won by 247 runs.
