FIFTY budding poets from Tavistock College are this week celebrating, after learning that their names are to be seen in print in a new anthology, to be published this summer. The students, aged between eleven and 16, will have their poems included in the new 'All Booked Up' volume, which is printed annually. The entries have now also reached the final stage of a national competition, with the opportunity of winning prizes for the students and their schools. Kathy Worrall, Tavistock College's librarian, said she was delighted with the response of the students to the challenge. 'These are mainly just children who came into the library and said they wanted to do it — it's lovely so many of them entered, and they are just thrilled their names are going to be seen in print in the anthology,' said Kathy. The college submitted entries to two categories, one for nine to 12-year-olds and one in the 13 to 16-year-old age range. Most of the poems were written by Year 7 students but Kathy said there were also an impressive number from Year 10. 'The poems could be about anything, they are all completely different because it was an open competition, they could write whatever they wanted,' Kathy said. 'Some of them were really very deep indeed — I was quite amazed by a few of them.' The college will be sent a copy of the anthology once it has been published, which can be viewed in the library.
