A GROUP of young entrepreneurs from Okehampton College are certain their new business venture is a recipe for success!

With cookery books topping the book charts these days and famous chefs never off the TV, the 'A' level students have come up with their own twist on a tried and tested formula.

Did you know Prime Minister Tony Blair has his own recipe for a yummy chocolate cake or leader of the Liberal Democrats Charles Kennedy is very partial to stew and dumplings? Well 'Recipe Favourites' will let you into the secrets of what the rich and famous like to eat.

The students have acquired favourite recipes from a host of national and local celebrities including cast members from Eastenders, TV chefs and radio presenters and put them into a publication which will be on sale in the next two months.

The project has come about through the initiative 'Young Enterprise' which gives young people an opportunity to start up their own business venture and run it on their own with guidance from business professionals.

The group has been working with staff at HSBC bank in Okehampton and their history teacher Mr Smith and have received help from the print workshop at Okehampton College.

Sales director of the group 'College Enterprises' Ryan Cheyne said they decided on a recipe book because the costs involved were quite small and there was definitely a market for it.

'Because the book has famous people in it and all the recipes are well tested I think it will do well,' he said.

'We also have featured local people such as West Devon MP John Burnett, Noel Edmonds and teachers at the college.

'The whole aim of the project is to design and run your own business without the difficulties of it running into debt because it is all insured by Young Enterprise.'

Selling shares in the business and a raffle on Edwardian evening has raised enough money for the book's print run and the profits will be divided between shareholders and the eight members of the group.

'Recipe Favourites' will be on sale in local shops in the Okehampton area and craft fairs.
