OKEHAMPTON College held a Year 8 Business Day on Friday. It was a learning experience for the whole of the year.
The students gained knowledge of working with others and the complications involved in running a business. There was much competitiveness between each year eight team.
They were working towards certificates for team work, best quality mobile and best presentation.
The school has tried to keep the day as near to reality as possible. This was done by giving them a strict schedule to work to and all materials had to be bought from the shop run by sixth form students.
The college would like to express its thanks to the eleven business partners who all gave their help and time to the students: Paul Hartley, Devon Education Business Partnership; Tim Kitchen, Glanbia Foods; Neil Hallam, head teacher of North Tawton Primary School; Paul Biddick, manager National Westminster Bank; Miss Julie Ounsworth, manager HSBC plc; Nigel Stocks, manager Lloyds plc; Michael Saunby, Met Office; Henry Marshall, Marshall Joinery; Miss Jill Ware, Kemy Apt Union; Tony Crouch, H J Heinz Frozen and Chilled Foods.
