STUDENTS and staff at Duchy College Stoke Climsland, working in conjunction with The Country Food Trust (TCFT), donated 2,400 meals to the local group Callington Soup Run and to Launceston Foodbank.

TCFT is a registered charity that produces food and donates it to people in need, aiming to feed more than 1,000,000 in the next five years.

To date, 450,000 meals have been delivered throughout the UK, to people in need in towns and rural areas.

Callington Soup Run is a team of volunteers from the Callington area which helps to feed the homeless in Plymouth.

Donations flooded in to the college throughout December and one student even donated her own savings to the cause.

Student Kayleigh Paddock said dropping off all of the food and other essentials to the soup run and foodbank was rewarding.

‘We all worked together to efficiently unload all of the boxes and despite the bad weather we got it all done,’ she said.

‘It felt really good knowing that we were doing something kind and something that would have a positive impact on people, especially at a difficult time like the holidays.’

Animal Management programme manager Rebecca Egan said everyone was ‘very proud’ of the way all the students and staff had pulled together to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Gamekeeping programme manager and TCFT ambassador for Cornwall Ian Berry said: ‘It was particularly relevant that we remember those in need at this time of year.

‘However, we will be here to provide support as long as it is needed.’
