SEVEN intrepid chemistry students from Callington Community College competed in the 47th annual Chemistry Olympiad, organised by INEOS and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
The first round of assessment took place this week and the finals will be held in Azerbaijan.
The challenge was accepted by one student from Year 13, Ellie Gosney, and six from Year 12, Yve Taylor, Lawrence Clarkson, Jess Hawkins, Kerry Preece, Jake Barker and Jenna Buxton.
This was the first year that any Callington student had entered the competition. Previous years students were reluctant to test themselves in the international arena but this year's students asked the staff to allow them to enter.
The task was a difficult examination that took two hours to complete. The marks have now been submitted to the Royal Society of Chemistry and the students are now awaiting the judge's decision to see if any of them will progress further.
