STUDENTS from Tavistock College recently visited the Town Hall for a round of quick fire, interactive political speed dating with Tavistock's town councillors. The group of year seven children, accompanied by year 12 law students and staff, taking part in the event as part of the college's curriculum enrichment programme, delighted the councillors with their good manners and penetrating questions. The students similarly enjoyed the experience, finding the councillors to be friendly and helpful. Beau Waycott said it was a 'unique day' while James French went so far as to describe the visit as 'a quality learning experience'. Principal Helen Salmon commented: 'Our students learn a great deal from taking part in the political speed dating event. They begin to understand how local democracy works and how they can play an active part in their local community'. The college has expressed thanks to all the councillors — Robin Musgrave, Ian Walton, Malcolm Ashfold, Ted Sherrell, Diana Moyse and Jessica Evans — for giving up their time for the event, and to Debo Sellis for helping to organise the event.
