TAVISTOCK Squash Club had a home match against Exeter University III last week and had a convincing win over one of the league's youngest but weakest sides.

Dave Jefferies stepped in to the number 5 slot, representing the club for the first time. Dave found the task demanding and put up a good display but did not quite come to grips with his opponent's game plan. He lost 3-0.

Pete Middleton, moving up to number 4 for the first time, was able to secure a win, something he has not been able to achieve in his normal number 5 position. His opponent could not overcome Pete's strong left forehand drives. He won 3-0.

Team captain Stuart Cox had a comfortable and quick win. Stuart's fitness and ability to vary his game made this a short match.

With regular number 2 player unavailable Colin Grice moved to this slot. Colin discovered he had started Devon League squash before any of the visiting team were born!

The first three games were well contested with two going to Colin and one to his opponent. The Uni student ran out of steam in game 4 leaving Colin the winner 3-1.

Andy Gauler at number 1 managed to achieve his first win of the season. In the first two games his opponent rallied well but could not find the winning shots.

The third game Andy won easily and therefore an overall 3-0 win.

The match was over much quicker than usual and Tavistock were happy to adjourn to the Ordulph Arms with the young and sociable University team.
