POLICE were called to an incident at Tavistock College last week, where a small group of students was involved in an altercation. Detective Sargeant Mark Sloman said police were called to the school after reports of a 'disturbance between students' and a report of an injury to a student. He said: 'Officers spoke to the students and teachers. The male was known to have been drinking, but there will be no criminal investigation by police and the incident was left to be dealt with by the school.' College principal Helen Salmon said the school was quick to deal with the situation appropriately: 'The police were of the view that the college disciplinary procedures could deal with this incident. Sadly, a small minority of students were involved in drinking off-site. When they returned to school they were dealt with quickly and decisively. 'Parents were contacted and students involved will only come into college for exams. These students will not be able to attend the college prom. The exams were not disrupted. 'The majority of our Year 11 students are working really hard and focusing on their exams. We are expecting this year group to do well and I hope that the poor behaviour of a minority won't detract from this.'
