Tavistock thirds v

Yelverton thirds

IN the last game of the season Tavistock entertained Yelverton who still had an outside chance of securing runners-up spot in the league.

For large parts of this game though it was Tavistock that held the upper hand, particularly with their bowling.

Yelverton though with Robinson (3-32) and Rushton (4-19) bowling with pace and accuracy tore through the Tavistock order. Only Jayarajah (18) and Lee (18) of the home side's top and middle order managed to make double figures as the Yelverton bowling dominated on a soft low bounce wicket. A tail end stand of 15 not out from Folley temporarily held up proceedings but it was Rushton again returning to the attack that wrapped things up with a couple more wickets to restrict Tavistock to 105 all out.

However Tavistock bowlers Gliddon and Folley came back with a vengence and the pair had Yelverton in all sorts of bother. By the end of their spell Gliddon and Folley had Yelverton reeling on 33-6 after 20 overs. Folley in particular finished with his season best figures of 4-11 off 10, and Gliddon with 2-21. Unfortunately for Tavistock Yelverton's Cook stood his ground and continued to keep the Yelverton score moving along. Worse still for Tavistock their second string bowling also was unable to keep up the momentum set by their openers. Bellamy took a further wicket for Tavistock but runs were leaking from the river end despite several bowling changes.

In the end it was Cook that did it for Yelverton as his gritty innings of 62 not out saw them through with four overs to spare. The importance of Cook's contribution to Yelverton could be seen in the context that no other Yelverton batsman made double figures.

Yelverton can look back and be pleased with their season, whilst Tavistock can reflect on some good results but all too often, a case of what might have been, if only key players had been available.
