WARD and Chowen, Auctioneers at Tavistock Livestock Centre report another strong trade for suckled calves at their third season?s sale on November 27. A total of 315 calves were sold to buyers from as far as Yorkshire to West Cornwall. Top price of the day was £498 for a bunch of three 11mo Charolais xSouth Devon x steers from Messrs B J L and D J Landick, Sampford Spiney, who also had top price heifers of £392 for three 11mo Charolais x. Top price per kilo was 182 ppk for a bunch of six 5/6mo Charolais x Steers which realised £352 for Mr D J Skelley, Shaugh Prior. Other notable prices included £470 for two 13mo Limousin x for Mr J H Vanstone, Tavistock; £468 for a 7 mo Simmental x steer from Messrs F G and DM Penwill, Mary Tavy (whose 7mo heifers sold for £342 for a bunch of two); £430 for three 5/6mo Charolais x steers from Messrs I G Mortimore and Son, Chagford; £420 for three 7/8mo South Devon steers from Mr D W Mudge, Princetown; and £315 for a bunch of six 6/7mo Charolais x heifers from Messrs R A, L K and D R Cole, Lydford.
