Tavistock RFC U12 45 Okehampton U12 7 TAVISTOCK was fortunate in having a full squad turnout for the home game against Okehampton on Sunday. From the start the Tavistock lads were energised and cohesive, playing an open fast attacking game. The availability of players enabled several changes during the game and the experimentation with different player combinations in match conditions. An early try from Sam Northmore encouraged Tavistock to continue playing the open rugby in which the centres and backs excel. The tries came not from individual performances but strong teamwork moving the ball between players and retaining possession once won. Henry Salmon was able to put two tries over the line, once from a pass from Rhys Davies in the Okehampton 25 and secondly from a ball secured by Sam Northmore in the line out, offloaded swiftly through the centres. Shortly before half time, Frazer Bayliss was able to reach the line with a ball fed out of a ruck in the Okehampton half. In the second half, Thomas Russon on the wing scored a text book try from a ball rapidly passed across the complete centre line. This was followed by a further two tries, one each from Sam Northmore and Frazer Bayliss. In the last quarter Okehampton won a well deserved try from a rolling maul. Okehampton put up an unflagging defence against a rising scoreline which enabled an excellent game to be played. It was one of those games where individuals did not stand out, such was the standard of performance by everyone on the field. There were some excellent contributions from Jack Cooper and Jeremy Massey Birch and strong running from Jonty Newton and Henry Kisby.
