Newton Town 0 Okehampton Seconds 5 OKEHAMPTON played Newton Town for the second time in eight days due to a revised league fixture and ran out very comfortable winners. Okehampton took to the pitch with determination to take control of the game and score some early goals, although the first goal never came until the 28th minute. Argyle?s complete dominance to play football through and around their opponents for that period and the rest of the game meant that the 5-0 scoreline did nothing but flatter Newton Town. In Argyle?s midfield Ricky Drew and Danny Maddax set the pace of the game early with some great balls into the box, creating all sorts of problems for the home side. Unfortunately too many good opportunities were wasted and they also found the Newton keeper having an excellent game. Okehampton had a penalty in the 15th minute when Ricky Drew was upended after a slick move involving Stu Entwhistle. The Newton keeper performed heroics as he saved Darren Prouse?s spot kick. Okehampton did open their scoring on the 28th minute when Prouse picked up the ball outside the Newton box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Two minutes later Aaron Ditchburn missed a great opportunity to open his season?s account as he headed wide of a half empty net. On 30 minutes Ricky Drew delivered a great ball into the box from a corner and Dan Leahy was at the far post to knock it in. The second half saw Okehampton continue to control the game in midfield, which had welcomed back Martin Taylor at half time after his long term knee injury. With Taylor fitting straight back in chances fell at regular intervals and when Darren Prouse and Jamie Atherton (2) scored three goals between 53 and 62 minutes, it looked as though the final score would do Okehampton justice. Unfortunately lady luck played her hand and Okehampton missed chances, and great goalkeeping kept the scoreline to 5-0. l Next week Argyle Seconds are home to Axminster United.
