MORE than £2,000 was raised by trekkers during the recent Mount House 5 Tors Walk. The sponsored walk was in aid of Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Group and 200 pupils, staff, parents and supporters took part. The ten-mile route ? which involved climbing more than 1,000ft in all ? started from Mount House School in Tavistock and continued through country lanes to the moor above Peter Tavy, before taking a circular route to Roos Tor, Great and Mid Staple Tors and Cox Tor. Warm sunshine and stunning views rewarded the walkers, who returned to the school via a small outcrop which was named Mount House Tor for the day. The Dartmoor Rescue Group was on hand and refreshment stops were organised by school staff, who also arranged a buffet lunch for the returning walkers. The youngest participant to cover the full ten miles was five-year-old Guy Crofton from Chagford. The walk was organised by headmaster?s wife Jo Massey, who thanked all the walkers and sponsors. She said the Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Group did a terrific job and they were pleased to be able to make a contribution to their work.
