TAVISTOCK Athletic Club juniors started the new Sportshall season where they left off last year ? at the top of the table.

After winning the series last winter they sent 31 athletes to the first meeting in Dawlish on Sunday week.

It was a sensational event with Tavistock closing the day with a 50-point lead over rivals North Devon and Exeter close behind in third.

Thirteen new club records were also achieved. Harry Wyatt broke records in all three of his events ? the two lap race, two lap hurdles and speed bounce.

Charlotte Herdman created new records in the two lap and four lap races, Kathryn Dolton achieved new marks in the high jump and standing triple jump and Kayleigh Wonnacott notched records for the vertical jump and shot.

Other new club record holders were Bethan Shillabeer in the standing long jump, Mat McClung in the speed bounce, Vivien Goddard-Stephens in the two lap hurdles and Alslym Taylor in the soft javelin.

U11 girls: Alslym Taylor, soft javelin, 1st, 15.00 metres; Charlotte Herdman, vertical jump, 1st, 0.45 metres; Chloe Ewings, 4 laps, 8th, 60.80 seconds; Hannah Sparks, vertical jump, 6th, 0.30 metres; Vivien Goddard-Stephens, 4 laps, 3rd, 56.60 seconds.

U13 girls: Alexandra Smith, 4 laps, 4th, 52.40 seconds; Hannah Holland, standing triple jump, 3rd, 5.00 metres; Katharine Pike; standing long jump, 14th, 1.67 metres; Laura Aspen, 6 laps, 3rd, 1.22.2 mins /secs; Victoria Smith, 2 laps hurdles, 2nd, 26.40 seconds.

U10 boys: Cris Argoyles, 2 laps, 4th, 28.10 seconds; Harry Monks, 1 lap hurdles, 2nd, 14.80 seconds; Luke Shalgosky, 1 lap hurdles, 4th, 15.30 seconds; Tom Richards, sitting throw, 1st, 6.25 metres.

U11 boys: Ben Brown, 2 lap hurdles, 1st, 27.10 seconds; John Moneer, soft javelin, 4th, 11.25 metres; Matthew McClung, speed bounce, 1st, 52 in 20 Secs.

U13 boys: Matt McNamara-Waddington, high jump, 2nd 1.25 metres; Owen Drage, standing long jump, 1st, 2.11 metres.

U15 boys: Harry Wyatt, Speed Bounce, 1st, 84 in 30 Secs; Matthew Drage, High Jump, 1st, 1.45 metres; Richard Stephens, vertical jump, 2nd, 0.58 metres.

On the same day, 12 seniors from the club made the trip up to the other end of the county for the North Devon 10K.

This was the last event in the club?s Grand Prix series so final points and positions were going to be decided in what has been another nailbiting contest.

The final results from the Grand Prix see Allan Herdman winning the men?s event with Chris Eastaugh 2nd and Pete Bazley 3rd.

Fiona Dunn won the women?s competition with Marion Playle close behind in 2nd and Nicole Heryet 3rd.
