FROM Lafayette, Louisiana, The Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of traditional Cajun and Creole music with youthful exuberance and there?s a great chance to catch their lively music at Calstock this month. Being described as ?the link that connects the young and the old generations?, and, ?the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time?, the Pine Leaf Boys play the dance hall standards, as well as making a point to bring many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and playing them with gusto. They are the youngest band to ever sign for the revered Arhoolie record label, have just had a two page spread in The New York Times and featured live on Nick Spitzer?s ?American Routes? show out of New Orleans. This may be the only chance to catch them in a small venue like Calstock Hall, where they play on Thursday July 19 at 8pm. Tickets £8 in advance from Levines Post Office or from 01822 832414.
