Tamar League A Division
TAVISTOCK asked Yelverton to bat first and apart from a couple of loose overs right at the start, it was the opening attack of Mills and young Will Smith, that were the ones asking all the questions. Tavistock were looking good after 23 overs with Yelverton struggling on 80 for 5. The arrival of West and Vinson to the crease was about to change all that. In a blistering assault on the Tavistock bowling the pair in rapid time put on a massive 131 runs between them. By the time West (59) fell to a superb boundary catch by Johnny Smith off Folley, the damage had been done. Vinson continued unabated to post an unbeaten 72 and with it a formidable 236 for Tavistock to chase.
Tavistock went out with a positive attitude and a good partnership between Dhanjal (25) and skipper Chidzoy (38) saw off the strong attack of Roe and South while keeping the runs ticking over. The loss of Dhanjal and Chidzoy to a nice spell of spin bowling from Ben Spear brought Willetts and Wood to the crease. Some big hitting from the pair kept Tavistock in the game but never quite up with the rate required. Willetts eventually fell but not before posting a superb 52. Woods carried on supported by Ken Coe to contribute a useful 30. With the overs now running out Tavistock chase ended on a commendable 184 for 5.
