Pre season friendly

Clyst Rovers 1

Callington Town 5

WITH two weeks to go until the season starts in earnest, Callington managership duo of Micky Hunt and Lee Beer must be happy with the progress so far as their new look young side decisively beat Premier division Clyst Rovers on Saturday - with striker Mike Norman hitting another purple patch, scoring four of the five goals.

Town started well and took a 28th minute lead when Norman broke on the left before curling a perfect cross that was met by the advancing Gareth Jones who controlled before firing the ball past the Rovers' keeper.

The home side briefly came into the game at the start of the second half, and equalised on 55 minutes, but their parity was short lived as five minutes later, Jones repayed the favour to Norman with a cross from the right that was headed home by the striker to restore the Town advantage.

On 70 minutes, Ryan Lucassi again created space and his cross was met by Norman who fired home his second and Callington's third.

Fifteen minutes from time, Norman was celebrating his hat trick as he fired home from the penalty spot after Lucassi was upended in the box, and then, in the final few minutes, the on form forward fired home his fourth to complete the scoring.

l Callington's final pre-season match, at home to Lanreath on Friday night (7pm kick-off) will give Hunt and Beer one final chance to confirm the starting squad before Newquay make the trip to Ginsters Marshfield Parc for the league opener on August 16.
